First, the naming confusion, cleared up: per MEATER’s own support documentation, the MEATER Pro is the MEATER 2 Plus — the same product, renamed. Reviews of either name describe the same hardware.
The app is the best in the category, and that’s a real advantage: guided cooks, estimated finish times, clean multi-device support. But the independent test data deserves equal billing. The Naked Whiz measured the internal sensors reading 2.0 to 2.5°F high in boiling water, the ambient sensor ranging from 3.9°F low to 5.1°F high, and roughly ten brief disconnections in a 79-minute cook at point-blank range — with suspicion falling on the software resetting its own Bluetooth radio. The honest limits, per Burning Brisket and AmazingRibs: a basic app, a weak ambient reading, and no Wi-Fi bridge. And if you’re eyeing ThermoPro’s four-probe TP25, know that Tom’s Guide panned its app as feeling like an unfinished prototype — the hardware ambitions outrun the software.

First, that 3-minute rest for whole-muscle red meat is part of the USDA standard, not garnish — the temperature must reach 145°F and the meat must rest at least 3 minutes before carving or eating.
